A very interesting alternative on the southern side of the Col de la Madeleine with partial gravel and the absolutely stunning Lacets de Montvernier.
This is one of my favorite mountain roads because it offers not only a very scenic landscape with a splendid view into the valley of the Arc but also due to the famous Lacets.

The majority of this road is made up of 18 hairpin bends very close to each other and called “laces of Montvernier”. Located halfway along the road, they allow you to cross the cliff that separates the two localities. At the top of the cliff, at the edge of the road, is the chapel of La Balme. To cover an orthodromic distance of 700 meters, the road extends over a length of 3,350 meters. In bends, its width is 4 meters and its average gradient of 7.56% for a maximum gradient of 10% over 53 meters.
